Hi, my name is Meredith Charles and I'd love to work with your school, center, library, or organization to create some amazing theatre enrichment activities that your students, teachers, residents and staff will be talking about for years to come!

I am a teacher, performer and arts advocate with over 25 years of experience, and hold dual licensure from the Massachusetts DESE in both Performing Arts Pre-K-12 and Elementary Education Grades 1-6. I have taught all ages from toddlers to adults, and enjoy sharing my joy and knowledge of theater with my students. I am a strong believer in low-risk theatre opportunities for everyone, where the focus is on creative expression and trying something new, rather than an end product. I created Drama Out of the Box™ as a way to break through the stereotypes of what art and theatre are and what it means to be "an artist" I believe that everyone has in them the ability to create art and the desire to explore their ideas in a new and alternative way. I have seen the power of theatre to relieve stress, teach concepts, help groups communicate, encourage shy students to express ideas, and more.

I invite you to look through my website and peruse the kinds of programs I can offer. Whether you are looking for a unique class or workshop for your library or afterschool program, a professional development workshop that your participants will learn from and appreciate (no boring slide shows here!), or a new way to present an idea or concept that hasn't been tried before, you can find it with Drama Out of the Box™! With my low-risk and non-threatening interactive approach, I'll bring an excitement and enthusiasm that will have your community clamoring for more!

Get in touch and see how powerful the arts can be for everyone!

"Meredith is an amazing teacher, who connects with all learners. My students are all learning English as a second language, and are early on in the language acquisition progress. As a class, they can be quite challenging for teachers, since information has to be presented clearly, succinctly, and in a variety of different modes. Meredith has a strong rapport with my class, and is an expert at supporting their varied needs. All my learners are able to participate; even those who are only just beginning to put together sentences in English. Meredith introduces games that are clearly explained, entertaining, and that allow students to safely use their energy: moving their bodies, trying out new roles, and learning as they go. Students have fun and are able to engage in drama games that are energetic and creative, but then also are able to come back and refocus. Under her guidance, two of my students who nearly always shy away from raising their hands, were able to impress their classmates and participate in a public speaking activity. I believe that Meredith is able to get the most from her students because she knows them individually. She takes time to check in with individual students and to adapt lessons to the learning needs of different classes. She inspires the best from her students through high expectations, a fantastically fun learning environment, and thoughtful lessons which consider the needs of diverse learners. Seeing Meredith with my class is a wonderful gift: I invariably want to just stay and watch."
